Skin Care & Dreams

Hi - my name is Suzanne and I am a Senior Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay.

I was first introduced to Mary Kay products at a ‘clothing swap’ at a friend’s home in October 2006.  One of the ladies attending the event was a consultant and had a little table set up.  Like a lot of my customers, I started my Mary Kay journey buying glamour. In early 2007, the Mary Kay consultant I had been buying from decided to leave the business so she referred me to her Director, Anne Marie.   I continued buying glamour until April 2009, when my consultant, Anne Marie, asked if I would be willing to trial the Mary Kay TimeWise Basic skin care set (the TimeWise® 3-in-1 Cleanser and TimeWise® Age-Fighting Moisturizer).  She left the 2 bottles in my mailbox with a questionnaire.  She asked me to use both products for 10 days and provide her with feedback.  Three days into the 10-day trial, thrilled with the results I was seeing, called Anne Marie up and bought the Basic skin care set.  The rest is history.

In May 2013, Anne Marie asked if I would be interested in starting my own Mary Kay business, if only just for personal-use.  I am a law clerk by trade and had been working as a law clerk for 20+ years so initially my answer was an unequivocal NO.  However, in 2014, the company I was working for at the time starting going through transition and I didn’t know how secure my position was so I started thinking “I need a back-up plan” so I joined Mary Kay in May 2014.  I loved the products, liked the idea that I didn’t have to pay full price for products that I use every day, I wanted the opportunity to provide a better quality of life for my family and I am continually blown-away by the fantastic recognition Mary Kay showers its consultants with.

You might not know this but Mary Kay Ash was a real person.  After 25 years in the direct selling business, Mary Kay Ash faced a situation all too familiar to women.  She resigned her position as a national training director when yet another man she had trained was promoted above her – at twice her salary.  Her response was visionary.  At first, Mary Kay Ash started writing a book that would help women gain the opportunities she had been denied. But soon she realized she was creating a business plan that would do much more than give advice. It formed the foundation for a new opportunity where women could develop their talents and achieve unlimited success.

Almost 52 years ago, in September 1963, Mary Kay Ash (who was in her 40s), took her past experience, her business plan, her entire life savings of $5,000 in savings, enlisted the help of her 20-year-old son, Richard, and created Beauty by Mary Kay. It was a first – a company dedicated to making life more beautiful for women, inside and out. The Company was founded, not on the competitive rule, but on the Golden Rule – on praising people to success – and on the principle of placing faith first, family second and career third. It was a company, as Mary Kay Ash often said, “with heart.”  Today, Mary Kay Inc. remains committed to Mary Kay’s vision and value system and is represented in more than 35 countries on 5 continents with more than 3 million independent sales force members.  In Mary Kay, you’re in business for yourself but never by yourself.

Mary Kay Ash's philosophy of giving led to the establishment of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation in the United States in 1996. Established in 2001, the Canadian Foundation helps carry on Mary Kay's legacy with its unified mission to support women living with cancer through the Look Good Feel Better® program and to put an end to domestic violence by providing grants to women’s shelters and community outreach programs.

Mary Kay Cosmetics is a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA) and our current General Manager, Lynda Rose, sits on its Board of Directors.  The Company, along with several executives, have received various awards from the DSA over the years.  In 1976, Mary Kay Ash was inducted into the DSA Hall of Fame. In a typical year, Mary Kay spends millions of dollars in research and development and conducts more than 300,000 tests to ensure that Mary Kay® products meets or exceed the highest standards of quality, safety and performance as set out by the DSA and Canadian Government.  As well, Mary Kay does not support animal testing of its products.
