I was first introduced to Mary Kay products at a ‘clothing swap’ at a friend’s home in October 2006. One of the ladies attending the event was a consultant and had a little table set up. Like a lot of my customers, I started my Mary Kay journey buying glamour. In early 2007, the Mary Kay consultant I had been buying from decided to leave the business so she referred me to her Director, Anne Marie. I continued buying glamour until April 2009, when my consultant, Anne Marie, asked if I would be willing to trial the Mary Kay TimeWise Basic skin care set (the TimeWise® 3-in-1 Cleanser and TimeWise® Age-Fighting Moisturizer). She left the 2 bottles in my mailbox with a questionnaire. She asked me to use both products for 10 days and provide her with feedback. Three days into the 10-day trial, thrilled with the results I was seeing, called Anne Marie up and bought the Basic skin care set. The rest is history.
In May 2013, Anne Marie asked if I would be interested in starting my own Mary Kay business, if only just for personal-use. I am a law clerk by trade and had been working as a law clerk for 20+ years so initially my answer was an unequivocal NO. However, in 2014, the company I was working for at the time starting going through transition and I didn’t know how secure my position was so I started thinking “I need a back-up plan” so I joined Mary Kay in May 2014. I loved the products, liked the idea that I didn’t have to pay full price for products that I use every day, I wanted the opportunity to provide a better quality of life for my family and I am continually blown-away by the fantastic recognition Mary Kay showers its consultants with.
You might not know this but Mary Kay Ash was a real person. After 25 years in the direct selling business, Mary Kay Ash faced a situation all too familiar to women. She resigned her position as a national training director when yet another man she had trained was promoted above her – at twice her salary. Her response was visionary.
